Grocery stores are running low on household staples across the country right now. However, fresh produce in the time of a pandemic can be a bit concerning when buying from a large super market with a lot of people in and out sorting through the fruits and vegetables which may not already be prebagged or contained.

Buying Fresh Produce in the Time of a Pandemic

Our local communities have a lot to offer in this instance. In today’s uncertainty and the need for social distancing during our current pandemic, I would encourage you to look at your local growers.

We, in the Midwest, are so fortunate to have many people out there doing the hard work of growing fresh produce. Many also have dairy products, grass fed and free range meat, specialty micros, and fresh baked breads. Whether it is organic or not, I feel that this is a time when your local grower, or growers, will be a valuable food source during this time of uncertainty.

The fewer steps it takes to get your food to you, the less hands it has to go through, and the more confident you can feel that it is a safe product. Not only that but buying local, provided you have stored it properly, will generally last much longer than something that has traveled hundreds or thousands of miles to get to you giving you more bang for your buck.

Research Your Options Through the Nosh Box CSA

I would encourage you to explore what is available in your area. Yes, it is a more unconventional way of buying food. But only because recent times have allowed the convenience of large supermarkets. It hasn’t always been this way throughout history.

Also yes, I am a local Quad City area grower. And I would love to offer my services to you. However, I am not the only one out there. I know people! People who grow different things than me. People who bake fresh breads. People who offer meat, eggs, and fruit, honey, and specialty microgreens! I’m telling you, you have no idea what real bread is until you have tasted some of the bread available from our local bakers!

I deliver, through my Nosh Box CSA, what is ready at that particular time of the season. Having a bit of an adventurous spirit is helpful in that you may receive something you’ve never eaten before, I will offer Facebook Veg Videos and newsletters with information of just what to do with those things.

Staying Healthy in a Pandemic

As a nurse and SPIN (small plot intensive) grower, my goal is to show everyone who’s willing, how to have healthier lifestyles and a better detoxifying diet to keep your immune system strong, so when the doo doo hits the fan, your body is better equipped to fight it off! There are many ways to disguise something you think you don’t like or you think your kids won’t like to get the nutritional edge your body needs.

And P.S. ~ Just One More Thing

Local doesn’t have to mean just food. We have so many local business owners out there producing all kinds of products. Products you know are made in America, and better yet in your own community.

Anything from Soaps and lotions to headbands and jewelry! Lets keep our local communities strong!
